Nottingham - Pallet Racking

This project supported a client preparing for a major new contract, requiring a more efficient warehouse layout and increased storage capacity. Following a detailed site survey, we designed a layout to maximise the available space while aligning with operational needs. Through value engineering, the initial concept was refined to provide a more cost-effective solution without compromising storage performance or usability.

The Challenge

During installation, an unexpected manhole created a clash with the proposed racking layout. This introduced a risk to both the programme and the overall efficiency of the system if not resolved quickly. The challenge was to adapt the design in real time while maintaining storage capacity, keeping the project on track, and avoiding disruption to the client’s day-to-day operations.

The Solution

The issue was resolved by making a adjustment to the racking configuration, allowing the obstruction to be accommodated without impacting overall capacity. This change was implemented swiftly in collaboration with our supply chain, ensuring the project remained on schedule and within budget. The completed installation included new pre-galvanised pallet racking with timber decks at each beam level, alongside longspan shelving with steel decks to provide additional flexibility. D dividers were incorporated across part of the system to support the safe storage of vertical materials such as timber lengths, profiles, and sheet goods. Safety features were also integral to the solution, including anti-collapse mesh to the rear of the racking to protect a pedestrianised area, with a bespoke opening and raised beam level forming a practical transfer bay. Steel upright protectors and end frame barriers were installed to safeguard key impact zones, resulting in a robust, safe, and adaptable storage environment.
