External Racking - Fradley Park

Storage Concepts were tasked with the installation of an external pallet racking system located under a building canopy, providing partial weather protection. Due to its outdoor positioning, long-term durability and safety were key considerations. The racking system was designed to meet both operational efficiency and safety compliance standards while being able to withstand exposure to the elements.

The Challenge
The semi-exposed location posed several challenges, including the risk of corrosion from weather exposure, potential impact damage from forklift traffic, and the need to prevent pallet fall-throughs during loading. There was also a requirement to ensure the safety of pedestrians and surrounding stock from any goods falling or forklift tines protruding through the back of the racking system. Addressing these risks was essential for both ongoing operational safety and to minimise potential downtime caused by damage or stock handling incidents.

The Solution
To meet these challenges, a hot-dip galvanised pallet racking system was installed to provide maximum corrosion resistance in the exposed environment. All racking uprights were fitted with steel upright protectors, and end frame protection rails were added to the exposed frame ends to guard against potential forklift impacts.
Flush-mounted pallet support bars were installed on every beam level to prevent pallets from falling through the racking bays, which is a common and dangerous issue that can be time-consuming to resolve.
Additionally, a hot-dip galvanised anti-collapse mesh was installed to the rear of the exposed single run. This provides critical protection for pedestrians, equipment, and stock by preventing items from falling or forklift blades from protruding through the rear during handling operations.
