Roller Shelving - Nottingham

Storage Concepts was appointed by an existing client to support the setup of their new Nottingham-based warehouse, specifically for the contact lens distribution team. The objective was to implement an efficient storage system that enabled First-In-First-Out (FIFO) product rotation, while also improving ease of scanning and picking during order fulfilment.

The Challenge

The client required a system that could accommodate a wide range of contact lens prescription products stored in various box sizes. The main challenge was to design a layout that would not only maximise available storage space but also maintain clear separation between different SKUs. Additionally, the system needed to ensure smooth product flow for FIFO handling, all while keeping the setup user-friendly for warehouse staff.

The Solution

Storage Concepts designed and installed customised gravity-fed inclined roller shelving using one of our galvanised shelving systems. A roller track system was integrated with an incline to allow automatic product movement, plus dividers to maintain organisation between different products. Detailed drawings were developed in collaboration with the client to ensure all box sizes were accounted for and the system met both storage and operational needs.

In Phase 1, the installation provided 588 dedicated storage locations for contact lens boxes. Following positive feedback from the warehouse team, the client commissioned an additional two runs of shelving, expanding the system beyond the original three runs.
